How to help dry skin on baby's face?

My DD (8 months) has scaly red patches on her face - I think it's just normal winter dry skin, she's not showing any other signs of allergy or food sensitivity that I can tell. I'm sure it's uncomfortable - I get really dry skin in winter too - but I'm not sure what I can put on it to help moisturize her skin. I have some pure shea butter that I put on her yesterday morning, and by late afternoon her cheeks and chin were bright red and angry-looking. Poor kid. I thought shea butter was one of those things that doesn't irritate the skin???

So, what else should I try? I don't want to put baby lotion on her face, it's all scented and chemical and I'm sure it's not good for her skin, especially her face. I'm hesitant to plunge into other natural moisturizers because of her reaction to the shea butter. Any ideas?

You might try unrefined coconut oil. To be honest, the best thing I have found is Aquaphor Ointment. It is not "natural", but no perfumes and such.

I love Green Salve by Mother's Love. My baby has eczema, and this really helped.

Once the skin is healed, I use coconut oil to help prevent chapped skin.

We have all been slathering on the coconut oil in our house! DD has the same dry cheeks problem, and the CO is really helping.
