Hi there, just wondering if anyone else is in nursing school? I'm finishing up in August, it's been such a long road, and this semester is killing me, I don't put the kids in daycare I just go to class and turn around and come home...wouldn't have it any other way, but boy it's tough:

I am going to be starting my first semester of nursing school in August. I just finished up all of my pre-reqs last semester. I'm taking this semster off to get my "ducks in a row" so to speak before August.

Congrats to you for finishing up. WTG!!! What area of nursing are you planning to work in?

i'm going into labor and delivery...I have a long term goal of becoming a certified nurse midwife, but for now I'm going to enjoy my children and working a little bit hopefully at the local community hospital (they have a great birthplace) I'm also hoping to do some work w/ the local birth center
of coarse in my spare time: i would like to do some breastfeeding support, carseat safety, and natural childbirth classes.
how about you? where will you be going to school?

I'll be starting at the local junior college. After I get my RN I will continue to get my BSN.

Dh and I are planning on moving to Portland Oregonafter I finish my RN so I may have to finish my BSN in Oregon.

I think I may like to work in ER or possibly hospice. Who knows at this point. I'm just starting out.lol

Where are you going to school?

I started out at the Univerisity of Vermont and transfered to the University of Southern Maine after my son was born. I really needed some extra help and my mom is right here in Maine.

Boy I think you are smart, looking back I should have totally gotten my RN and been working while working on my BSN

we don't know where we are going after I finish, we may try to look into loan forgiveness so who knows...

great to meet you

I am not a nursing student, I am pre-med (my undergrad major is Biomedical Science) but I know at least here where I live RNs and Physicians can work at the Indian Clinic/Hospital and they will pay you a good salary plus $20K per year you work for them knocked off your student loans Basically anywhere there is a severe shortage of nurses and physicians they do this, I know I have seen a list online but I'm not sure where it is. If you go to www.allnurses.com I bet someone there can show you. Their are also a lot of hospitals who, if you sign a contract to work for them for X amount of time they will pay for your education, I have a few RN student friends who are doing this.

That is what I plan to do once I graduate from medical school (the Indian clinic/hospital)....I think it's a great deal, plus I want to help disadvantaged families and children so the loan payoff is just an added bonus for me.

Marilyn,

Thank you so much for the website.

It's funny, I was just talking with my family about funding for nursing.

Thanks again. And best of luck to you in med school.

Hi, there! I am a direct entry midwife and a labor and delivery nurse. I got my BSN straight away while childless and am now working on my MSN. Good luck to you guys on school!

P.S. Thanks for the link! I am thinking of relocating. I keep losing hours at work. I cannot support a family with short paychecks! The nursing shortage is sure not affecting the birthing center I work at!!

Loan forgiveness: Isn't that what Northern Exposure was about?

It's a great idea IMO (being a total outsider to medical fields). Good luck to all you amazing women!

Oooohhhh, how I wish I'd done that. It's soooooo hard to try to balance school while also (and first) being a mommy. I've had to wait until my children are older (9 & 4)...not babies to do this. Thank goodness dh is supportive and doesn't want me to work and go to school and take care of the children. I don't think stress-wise I could do it.

Goodluck on your MSN. Are you going to be a CNM?
