DS will be one on Tuesday, and he's just really getting the swing of solid foods. He didn't even start sitting up until 7 months, so we really took our time introducing solids. We want to make a cake for him (even though it will mostly be for us), but with all the food allergy crud to worry about, I'm not sure what kind of recipe to use. He's never had eggs, though I think yolks are okay now (I've just been too lazy to separate eggs to give him yolks), but whites are not. Chocolate is out. He's had cheese, but never straight cow's milk. Theoretically cow's milk should be okay as of year one, so I could use that for baking, right? Or would it be better to use yogurt or kefir? And, I don't want to make it very sweet, since he's never really had anything sweetened with sugar, and of course he's never had honey (except for one slip-up a couple months ago).
Anyone have any good recipes or ideas? I'm guessing most parents just ignore all this stuff and give their kids whatever. Am I making too big a deal?
Also, if it makes a difference, the eggs we would use would be from our chickens, and the milk would be raw cow's milk (no longer raw after baking it, of course).
