Clan of the Cave Bear, Discussion of the books past & future

The old thread is now closed so I am going to put this new link up for my pictures and drawings The Earth's Childrens Series Drawings & Models

I did have it through geocities but they decided to no longer do free hosting so I switched it to tripod. Sorry for the pop ups but tripod has them in abundance since it is a free web site place.

I'm in, I love those books! Well most of 'em...a couple get really repetitious!

Yep some where definatly better than others. She does have a LOT of detail in her books something I usually love but she can be a bit over the top especially where "pleasures" are concerned

I skim over almost everything involving "pleasures"...or Ayla and Jondalar's relationship, really. He creeps me out, so I skip a lot of that. The only parts that interest me are the places where Auel is looking at their relationship from the standpoint of the cultural conflicts.

The introductions. Holy night I GET IT! It's a big deal to make sure everyone knows their kinship relations.

Can't we just say they went through the customary introductions, at least once we get to page 400? Please?

I am looking forward to the next book and hoping with all my might that it comes out this year. Then the year after the final book will be out. But I have my doubts because it takes her so long to write one and she is a very old woman now. that she makes it to finish the series.

I do hope she finishes it. They're really remarkable books in a lot of ways. I just wish I liked the central couple better. Ayla is a fascinating character, but I just don't like Jondalar. I think I like him less every book.

How cool. I had no idea that there were 2 more books. I read this series a long time ago, maybe 15 years? I generally don't like to read a story more than once (I already know the ending ) but maybe I'll do it for this series since it's been so long. I doubt I can remember enough to make sense of the new book without reading the old ones again.

And neat models and drawing MCat.

Ty it was fun to do. I have the books and I have them on cd as well. Every night since before my dd was born so 10+ years now I have been listening to those cd's to fall asleep to. I never get tired of them I sometimes actually crave going to bed and hearing them.

My favorite is VOH followed by POP. I havnt read the physical books in a long time though. I plan to again some day but it is kinda confusing listening to the cd at night then reading the same book later

That is the rumor about the 2 books but at least 1 more is for sure.

FTR she will be 74yo in February.

I worry if she'll finish the books too! I read somewhere that she gets really tied up in her research and having to know every little detail about something. Just write the story already!

I've been thinking about going through them again. Some of the books I've read once, most twice. They take a while to get through and I tend to need breaks.

According to wiki, the sixth book is now available for pre-order. I didn't realize the first three were published so much closer together than Pop and SoS...especially SoS.

I just re-read all the books so that I will have them fresh in my mind for the new one.

Love Ayla. Not always happy about Jondalar... he's kinda spoiled.

Ha, I think most of what I knew about sex at the age of 12 came from reading about their pleasures. I still kind of love this series. It's so interesting to me that every time I read a New York Times or National Geographic article about that time, it seems like Auel really got a lot of things right a couple decades ahead of the archeological finds.

2 More books? The last one I read was Shelters of Stone. Is that the most recent?

I find myself skimming a lot of the land detail or details on how to knap flint or whatever.

I've read them at least 3 times. The first is my favorite...but I love them all.

Shelters Of Stone is the last one published. There are supposed to be 2 more to finish the series out. Not sure it will happen but that Mrs. Auel lives long enough to make it happen.

I have them all on CD and there isnt a night that has gone by for the past 8 years that I dont have one of them playing (other than the nights when I was without cd player because I have worn out 3 )

I'd be okay with a ghost writer at this point. I REALLY want to know how the story ends!!!!

I hear that waiting so long between books has been hard and I do want to know how it ends and hope that the ending is how I picture it.

I want to see Ayla and Jondalar sitting around a fire surrounded by kids and grandkids while they tell stories of all their adventures. I also some how want Ayla to be able to see that Dirk is well and has had a great life. Either through a traveler or through the spirit world.

I would also like to see Ayla adopt a girl wolf pup and start the raising of domesticated dogs. The horses I think will definitely be a part of things to the end.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how her new walk with the spirit world goes. I really want to see her power get stronger!

oh I love this series! I thought we were done with the Shelters of Stone. Let the waiting begin.....

I am also eagerly awaiting the next in the series. Perhaps I will re-read the entire series to pass the time untill the book hits the library. How exiting.
