Our son is 25 months old. Until a few months ago, I was nursing him to sleep. We then transitioned to nursing and putting him in his crib awake. I would stay by his crib until he fell asleep. Sometimes this takes up to an hour.
A few weeks ago, his other mother (who he calls baba) took over bedtime for me when I was sick. They rocked together and sang songs. Then she put him in his crib, rubbed his back and talked for a few minutes, said goodnight and then left the room. He was fine! He sang himself a few songs and then zonked out. The next night we tried it again - same thing!
I thought perhaps it I could do the same thing, but no. If *I* rock him and try to leave after I put him in his crib he loses it. We've been taking turns now every other night and it's the same thing. With her, he's fine putting himself to sleep. With me, he cries.
What's up with this? And is there anyway I can get him to go down so nicely with me? (without CIO of course.)
