how do I give ds naked time and keep him from scratching??

I feel like I've tried everything on my son's (16 months) rash which seems to come and go. Things will seem to help for a while and then it'll come back and I'll have to try something else. It is likely thrush, tho he currently has nothing in his mouth and I have never had nipple issues even when he did have oral thrush.
I've tried numerous creams including nystatin and also tried mixing the nystatin with Weleda and A&D. For a long time the only thing that worked was GSE on the wipes and coconut oil on the rash but I've been using that regularly lately and the rash is looking awful tonight.
we've done dilute vinegar, oatmeal baths, probiotics, tea tree (which totally irritates him), garlic (also really irritates him).
I put him in disposables for a while, stripped the cloth diapers, used vinegar in the wash, and switched to an unscented detergent.

I haven't been able to give him naked time because he scratches SO hard he makes himself bleed.

so, how can I get this kid naked without causing more harm than good??

help!

are you somwhere warm? you could give him naked time outside which may distract him from scratching (or a kiddy pool too!)

other then that perhaps a very light swath of anti itch cream and then naked time with lots of hands on thing to play with to keep him occupied?

thanks!
yes, we are in a warm area but the grass irritates him too (he falls down quite a bit in our uneven lawn).
will try doing something like that indoors and see how it goes.
I have to keep my hand cupped over his rash area the entire time he's in the bath, so I'm thinking he'll just be scratching too much. We'll see...

What if when the rash is at the worst, you don't do true nakey time? Maybe put him in something like a pair of baby boxers (thin cotton shorts like 2-3 sizes too small will probably fit without a diaper). It won't give him all of the benefits of nakey time, but it might stop him from scratching and it will let things air out and feel more free than a diaper will.

My DS is 20 months and we've ECed since the beginning so he often hasn't been in a diaper... but we have fewer rash issues (also yeast) when he's in boxers a lot than the occasions we've had to put him in diapers. He's much more comfortable and has more freedom of movement in the boxers, too.

SS you're having this problem. We had awful yeast rash problems from birth until about 2 mths ago when we finally beat it!

Here's what we did:
=Change to sposies during treatment
=Soak diaps/wipes in chlorine bleach solution (I was soooo against this but we tried everything else), then HOT HOT HOT wash. Check that your washer doesn't add any cold water. Ours did and we didn't know it until we actually stood there the whole time it was filling
=Use Canesten at *every* diaper change and continue use for 2 weeks after rash is clear. This is really what did it.
=Change to using only hot water on wipes (no more wipes solution)

We didn't really need to do much nakey time to kill it. When her rash was bad, DD's bum would be covered in open sores. It made me cry to look at it. The chlorine bleach was seriously the only thing that killed it. We tried, GSE, TTO, probiotics, different detergents, dawn etc etc etc etc.

Good luck and I hope you can clear it up.

COCONUT OIL.

This is the one thing that made my then 15 mo's yeast diaper rash go away. I would apply it to my nipples everytime I nursed and put it on his butt with every change. Google it, many mainstream medical journals have documented the strong antifungal effects of coconut oil.

I don't think I can ever eat the stuff again after using it on my nipples and babe's butt for so long. IT has been a life saver for us.

For the longest time I was treating for yeast rash but it turned out it was the enzymes in the detergent that was causing chemical burns. I switched to Planet brand laundry detergent and we had no more problems. That might be able to prevent the underlying cause so he can be itch free.

thanks so much for all the good advice!!!
I forgot, we did do a little bleach in the diapers the last time it flared up and that did seem to help along with other things at the time. will do that again at the next wash.

coconut oil was our miracle cure last time he flared but not this time!! I thought maybe the oil had been contaminated if hubby or I had accidentally double dipped, introducing the yeast to the container. so I'm going to clean it really well and put fresh stuff in.

I don't think my detergent has enzymes, but I'll definitely check on that.

he's looking better today, pink instead of red. but he's still trying to sneak to a secret spot in the house and scratch. will keep at it, of course.

thanks again for all the good suggestions!!

May sound weird but when I was a baby I would get horrible raw red rashes and my mother would give me a bath in yogurt. Not terribly sure it really works though. I was also told back in the day that woman would soak tampons in yogurt before insertion to clear up yeast infections. Once again not too sure if it works. Oh and if someone knows this to cause more harm than good please let me know. We are out of diapers {YEAH!} but I do plan to TTC soon and who knows what will happen with that baby's bottom!
