Waldorf doll hair-using wool yarn

Thread Starter
I'm making my first Waldorf doll I decided to use wool yarn (85% wool/15% mohair 4oz weight/113 grams) for my dolls hair instead of the mohair or boucle type yarns. I want to have a single layer of long hair that can be braided or left down w/ bangs. Would a crocheted hair cap look best underneath to hide the skin since this is yarn and not whispy like the other types? Would it be too thick on top though? Or should I skip the crocheted cap? Also, does anyone know of an online tutorial?

Thanks in advance

I'd skip the crocheted cap and do something like this:
