I need help!!! wish I could have started CD'ing earlier but at least we are starting now. DD is 11.5 lbs and 2 1/2 mos. I love fitteds but a lot of them go to 15lbs and I don't know if it would be a waste of $$ now. I like the idea of a OS dipe but wouldn't they be bulky? I really do not like bulk and I prefer something that feels dry to baby but I do not like the idea of microfiber. PFs seem so bulky, but I've only tried them tri-folded. Are they trimmer w/ a different fold? And what about velour PF's? How are those for bulk & absorbency?? Am I being too picky?? I would love some advice on what to invest in!! TIA!

for me I think prefolds only seem bulky when your used to a disposable diapered bum (which to be look like someone trying to diaper with a paper towel
) I do think a fastened prefold is much trimmer than a trifolded though.
At 12lbs I think your LO would do very nicely in a one size system those really start to fit well and trim around 12lbs and can go upwards to 30-40lbs most cases. I haven't tried them but the most popular choices lately that would still give you some natural fabrics seem to be the soft bums like mentioned above or the grobaby system the bumgenius organics are also a popular choice If I could I'd suggest one of each and see what works best. if on a tight budget consider the flip system.

I like the bg flips so far. We just started cd'ing and our LO is 3 1/2 mos and about 13 lbs. We use the organic cotton inserts and they are SUPER absorbent. They also have stay dry and disposable inserts, but we haven't tried either of those. The organic cotton are a little bulky but not too bad, I have read that the other 2 options are a little trimmer. Plus the covers fit nice and have lots of snaps to adjust to the size you need. I think I like the flips better than the fitteds we bought, but I may also try a couple one size AIO's.
I would suggest trying a couple different types to start with, see what works for you, then order more (that's what we're doing). That way you don't put lots of $ into stuff you aren't going to like/use.

I am currently doing a cloth diaper trial through our local cloth diaper boutique and we have a Fuzzi Bunz pocket, Happy Heineys pocket, Thirsties Fab Fitteds & Thirsties Cover, prefold, Bummis cover, knickernappies pocket, Drybees pocket, and BG AIO. The bulkiest of all of these for us has been the prefold in the bummis cover, and the trimmest has been the Thirsties Fab Fitteds. I will try the prefolds with the snappi instead and see if that helps.
