I developed a very small umbilical hernia after my third pregnancy with twins. I actually didn't even realize it until I went to my doctor for an annual physical last month as it is so small, so close to my belly button and my stomach is still so out of shape from the pregnancy. We decided to hold off on surgery correction at the time as I had not nightweaned my babies and was concerned about the possibility of having an unplanned hospital stay as well as exposing my babies to the medications.
I wanted to start an at-home exercise regime and was all set to start when I remembered the hernia. Am I stuck not doing any kind of exercises until I get the surgery and heal from that? And after the surgery, would I not be able to do any strong abdominal exercises to help get back in shape? Any chance that doing some exercises will help the hernia repair itself (even though from what I've read it's very uncommon for it to disappear on it's own).
