I don't REMEMBER exactly my LMP....

OK-- so I have memory issues! I admit it. At least I haven't forgotten THAT!

I'm not sure when my LMP was... exactly. I THINK it was late September, and I'm GUESSING I'm about 3 months pregnant. I'm hoping to interview a couple of midwives in my area, but haven't seen an OB/GYN or midwife regarding pregnancy yet.

So-- My question is: is it possible for a midwife to TELL me how far along I am without knowing the date of my LMP?

They can get some kind of idea with a manual exam, although most IME would rather do an u/s to determine a more accurate date.

in March of 1982 my mother went to a doctor because she found out she was pregnant. Through external palpitation and fundal height, he told her she would be due around September 4th

I was born 9/4/82

it CAN be close just doing that... but if there is going to be issues such as a scheduled C/S, preterm labor or dealing with having to be induced because you may or may not be running late in the pregnancy... I would have the U/S to confirm.

I think it will largely depend on what practice you choose, how they will help you figure out an EDD. An OB, I suspect, would like you to get in ASAP, because dating U/S are more accurate earlier on. I think many midwives, especially those that don't recommend routine u/s , would be comfortable dating with your "best guess", measurements and manual exams.

I just wanted to add that what you describe is not uncommon (at least according to my OB). Lots of women don't exactly remember when their LMP is... especially if they were not actively TTC.

Thanks. I'm interviewing midwives and will be sure to ask about that.

I appreciate all your helpful responses.

Blessings on y'all!
