It took a little while because I was trying to figure out how to post pics...I still haven't though. So when I figure that out, I'll add pics too
So here's our story...
My mom came in to town on the 29th of December. I picked her up at the airport around 2pm and after a round of hugs and belly pats, we promptly began making plans for what activites we would do until baby made his appearance. We would go grocery shopping, visit some local attractions, and spend some good quality time together. We were all quite tired that evening and retired to bed around 9pm. Around 9:30pm, after having several regular contractions, I thought that baby may be trying make his way earthside. I called my midwife around 9:45 to check in with her before bedtime and she suggested trying to take a bath and then getting as much sleep as I could until labor picked up. So I took a bath with some lavender as Jon and I shared our excitement that a new baby would be with us soon. Afterwards, I laid down and managed to get some sleep until about 1:30am, when I was awoken with a failry painful contraction. I went to the bathroom and discovered that I had lost my mucus plug! I called my midwife again and told her that things were progressing. She suggested that we set up the birth tub and that I walk around and do what felt most comfortable to manage my contractions. Around 2am, we woke my mom up to tell her it was baby time! What great timing baby! My mom and DH promptly bustled about getting things ready as I worked through contractions every 4 minutes on my yoga ball. Around 3:30am, after a really intense contraction, I called my midwife and told her I was ready for her to come down. (She lives right down the street!) She said she's be here in 20 minuntes. By the time she got here, contractions were increasing in intensity and length and I was already between 5 and 6 centimeters dialated. I was so ready to get in the birth tub, but we ran out of hot water!! Ugh! I guess we have a small tank?!?! (We just got a new hot water heater the other day...lol) So, DH began boiling water to try to get the temperature in the tub up. By 5am, my contractions were really tough and my midwife checked me again: 7 centimeters. Time to get int he tub!! After that, things become blurry. My labor went fast and by 6am, I felt like I was in one long intense contraction that wouldn't go away! I felt like i managed pretty well up until this point and then I started crying a little and pounding on the wall becasue I was having trouble managing the pain. I starting pushing at 6:30am and Ezra was born in the water at 6:34am after 2 or 3 big pushes. He had swallowed some meconium and was slightly purple and had a little difficulty breathing on his own. My midwife did not think oxygen was necessary and after just a few moments, his breathing became less labored and he was pinking up! It was a great moment.
It was even more exciting to be the one to discover that I was holding a beautiful little boy! Ezra Mathew weighed in at 8 lbs exactly and 21.5 inches long. We welcome him to our family with much love and joy!!
Also-I am having a fairly successful breastfeeding relationship with him so far. I EPed with DS1 and was sooo worried about what BFing would be like this time. It is relieving to know that I can BF with "soft" nipples and my little guy is latching like a pro!!

Pictures to come when I figure out how to post them!!
