Seattle pastured eggs

Where can I find true pastured eggs in Seattle? All I see in various HFS are grain fed and while Sally Fallon in Nourishing Traditions said hens fed a flax omega-3 diet are ok if you can't get pastured, I'd love to find pastured eggs. I'd be willing to go a half hour from home every couple of weeks to get them and live north of the city a few miles.

I found mine by looking at folks selling eggs on Craigslist. I have seen the yard that the hens are kept and I meet up with her every other week for a few dozen eggs.
I've been successful with Craigslist twice. Both ladies let me see their chickens before I committed.

And they're not fed any grains?! Really? I have been searching and searching... Can I ask how much you pay for them?

I believe the eggs I am getting now are supplemented with a small amount of grain in the colder months. But my yolks are still orange, so I'm happy enough.
I'm paying $4 a dozen. Only slightly more than the free-range dozen at Trader Joe's ($3.69).
I have a really hard time going back to regular store-bought eggs now... it's like having egg-whites only, based on the color alone. Must have my bit of sunshine on a plate each morning.

I found some in Woodinville for $4 that roam during the day and fed grain at night. Seems like that might be 45 min from me. I'd go through Bothell. Are there any other good sources out that way that if I'm going out there would be worthwhile for a stop?

You can get them from Azure Standard. I think the price is around $8-$8.50 for two dozen large eggs. There are a few pick-up points in Seattle and on the Eastside. Not totally local, but at least PNW and grass fed!

Thanks. I may try that. There is a $50 min per person so I'll see if there are other items I want too .

Huh. I have never noticed that before, because I've never looked in the dairy category!

It looks like they have some nice selection, but some of the same eggs that you can get at PCC (Stiebrs Farm)- and they're actually a little cheaper at PCC. I might have to try the Mission Mountain eggs though because they're corn/soy free!

True....though the eggs at PCC (at least the ones I've seen) aren't truly pastured. They're cage free or free range and omega-3 grain or flax fed. Sigh.

They do have the Stiebrs Farm eggs, but also pastured eggs from their own farm. Their chickens are also fed grain, though. Those Mission Mountain eggs are new---I've never noticed them before, even just earlier this week! Price is $8.95/2 doz large eggs, which is only $0.20 more than the Azure Standard eggs. Here's the description:

Sorry, by "they" I meant Azure Standard----they carry both Stiebrs (more expensive than at PCC) but also eggs from AS's farm.

Seattle Area Pastured Eggs!

Hi everyone!

My wife and I started raising chickens a few years ago after learning about where our food came from and how it was produced. We could not find any products that came from chickens actually living on pastured grass, and not overcrowded in barns.

We rent a small 10 acre farm in Woodinville we like to call the Ellis Homestead, as a tribute to the original owners.

The hens living here at Ellis Homestead are pastured on a five acre field, and also have access to five acres of woodlands to forage in. They have access to organic chicken feed which is given to them at night when they are ready to go into the coop. Feeding them at night encourages them to forage during the day so that they don't hang around the coop eating grain all day. We purchase our feed from In Season Farms LTD out of Abbotsford, BC. The hens here are 100% "Free Range" from dawn to dusk. To us this means all of the hens spend the entire day outdoors free to roam wherever they please, except for the time spent to lay their eggs. At night they are safely locked away in a clean, spacious coop. I should mention that this takes no doing on our part, the hens all willingly go into the coop as the sun begins to fall from the sky. We then check on everyone and do a nightly count and latch the door.

Our goal on this farm is to raise healthy happy animals for our friends and family.

I think I will go to the farm at some point in the next couple of weeks and get some eggs. PM me if you are intersted in perhaps alternating pickups. I plan to get a few dozen at a time to last us a couple of weeks. I live in Seattle around NE 65th, not far from I-5.

I just took my kids there today for eggs, and am THRILLED! A very nice comforting couple, and very welcoming and happy to have the kids with me and roam around the farm and offered to let them pick a few eggs next time. IT's definatley worth going. I plan to get several dozen at a time every few weeks. PRobably the cleanest chicken house I've ever seen, and they seem to be very passionate about raising them. I like the fact that they do not feed them but a very small bit of organic feed, and they roam freely all over.

Yes i emailed him yesterday, and it seems they are very flexible. We had a really nice time!

Also to anyone interested, I would be happy to pick up eggs for anyone as we are really close, like probably a 25 minutes drive and we plan to go every couple weeks. I have an extra fridge just for when I make bulk trips for produce/eggs and the like. I am in Mill Creek/Everett so not sure that would help anyone but if anyone isn't able to make a treck often I could help there.
