This is a way old article, and was probably already posted on here back in 2005, but there was one quote I wanted to call attention to because it was SOOO unbelievable!
http://www.cirp.org/news/edmontonjournal09-12-05/
The quote was, "“In the U.S. if you’re not circumcised, it means generally that you’re an immigrant, the son of immigrants or you’re very poor.”
Schoen says it’s a tragedy that anti-circ groups have successfully lobbied legislatures in 13 states, including California, not to cover the cost of circumcision for welfare patients.
“Poor people in this country know if a boy is uncircumcised and somebody sees him in the locker room that ... he’s at a social disadvantage so they scrape together enough money to pay for circumcision even though they can’t afford it.”"
I will be honest... I heave heard of uncut boys being made fun of in the locker room. However, I have never heard of it being done because of their economic status. Plus, it isn't as if your son is going to have to whip out his penis when applying for a job to prove that he is from the good side of the tracks.
I just could not believe that any Doctor would promote a surgery on the basis of teasing in change rooms. I know he had other reasons in the article too, but the fact he even included this one shocks me. I hope in the last five years he has come to his senses.
