9 months too soon for a green smoothie?

(I read the off-topic sticky and think this question suits this forum more than the healthy eating forum. but pls move if it's inappropriate)

I've saw a picture of a toddler drinking a "green smoothie" in the Mothering magazine. How interesting! My son has been eating solids since he was 6 months and now at 9 months he eats lightly steamed carrots and bit sized fruit chunks (finger foods)

I'd love to try a "green smoothie" Has anyone tried this with the babe? What was your recipe and how many ounces did you serve? Thanks!

Not green, but I have done a "pink" smoothy (frozen strawberries, coconut milk, and a touch of syrup) with my DD since she was 9 months. She loves it!

I think green would be okay, too.

My son is 6.5 months and he has been having green smoothies for 2 weeks...

I make a kefir milk smoothie every morning and share it with my 9 month old son (and have been since he was about 7 months). I culture my own kefir milk from kefir grains, and add about a cup of milk, a few frozen strawberries, blueberries or raspberries, a banana and some spirulina powder. We're getting a juicer next week and I plan to juice vegetables and give him that as well

I used to give my DS homemade veggie juice starting around 7-8mo. I put carrot, spinach, celery, cilantro, cucumber, bell pepper and apples in it. I cut the tip off of rubber sippy cup (because the juice was thick) and let him go at it. I would say he'd drink an oz or two at any given time. Sometimes I'd let him dip a spoon in "try" to eat it that way. I think the same would go with smoothie.

I wouldn't think that 9 months is too soon. Just make sure anything in it, you've already introduced with the four-day-waiting period.

great idea!

How do you serve them? Do others cut off the tip of the sippies?

Thanks for the responses and all the great ideas. Also good reminder that it should be foods he's had already.

My son drinks from his cup with a straw, so I think a smoothie will work.

Also, a straw and cup is an awesome way to share a blended soup with your baby. I had to deal with sooo many messes until I figured that out. Drink a bit first yourself to make sure the bottom of the soup is cool enough for safety, then pop another straw in for your LO.
