The comments from these mothers who are so anti-breastfeeding in public infuriate me! Clearly, they have never had the experience of being out somewhere and their baby needing to eat!

And more particularly... this stat:

"In a survey published in 2004 by the American Dietetic Association, less than half — 43 percent — of 3,719 respondents said women should have the right to breast-feed in public places."

How very, very sad.

How sad and pathetic that MOTHERS are using the word "gross" when viewing a picture of a baby feeding on a breast!!!

Perhaps people need a reminder of how ALL humans were fed before the invention of formula......

Rediculous!! That picture shows nothing inappropriate, it's just silly that anyone would complain!

That's a really old article. I remember the controversy when it first came out. I bet if you search mothering you can find the original thread.

My favorite comment:

"I don't want my son or husband to accidentally see a breast they didn't want to see."
They didn't want to see? I don't know many men like that.

The woman who said "gross", she had A FOUR MONTH OLD. I can't fathom that.

I think it's a really sweet picture, and it just made my baby-fever even worse

How much worse is it to drive down the road and see billboards of women SEXUALLY exposed with MORE showing than the side of a breast?

Or, how about women who dress provocatively and come into the restaurant? Should they be told to "eat in the bathroom too" Do you worry about your husband "accidentally" seeing something WORSE than a breast with a baby attached to it?

Come on people, if you don't want to see it.....DON'T LOOK! It's not like women are coming in a restaurant and then, once the feed their babies, are sitting in the booth with you, shoving their breast in YOUR face yelling "Look at my nipple...look at my boob....DOESN'T IT MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE?!?"

Get over it society

OMG AustinMom, you nailed it! lol

I have seen more boob peeking out of low-cut tops on billboards around here - gratuitous boob, mind you, not working boob. I don't see or hear anyone freaking out about their husbands or sons "accidentally" seeing the giant 20-foot cleavage they drive past twice daily on Minnesota Ave.

People can be so... lame.

i remember the controversy when this originally came out. it was a hot-topic in my family because i was *GASP* nursing a grown up. (ok, she was only 8 mos, but no one bf's in my family). i nursed my current nursling at a crowded basketball game last night. the best thing: my 17 yr old grinning at me when i was nursing and me knowing that even though her friends thought it was GROSS, she knows it's BEST!!!

It's so sad how warped people's thought process is on the subject. They need to look around the world and see how normal and beautiful nursing your baby is. To call it gross is just plain ignorant. And it makes me wonder how did society get to this point? Brainwashing? I would love to ask those people why exactly do they think they feel that way about just a natural part of life, where did those opinions come from? If they really thought about it what would they say? I have never been out in public and seen a nursing mama flashing their boob around for everyone to see.

I remember when this came out. It is such a silly picture, I don't think that baby is really nursing. I just think the pasted a breast in there with him.

NEVER read comments. They are always just enraging.

My fave was the "Men are very visual, when they see a breast they see a breast irregardless of what it's being used for" (paraphrased)

What are grown men using breast for? Should the be the ones that feel bad for taking baby food and making it so dirty? It's not like men NEED breasts and the babies are stealing them. Men need to learn to share.
