Why am I knitting inside out?

I'm making a sock and it's going fine but I'm knitting it inside out!?! How did I manage to do that and how can I keep it from happening next time?

Nevermind, I fixed it when I went to pick up stitches along the heel flap

Despite the fact that it's fixed, thought you might like to know:

You are knitting "inside out" probably because you're knitting the stitches on the far side of the tube from yourself, with most of the DPNs between you and the knitting. The standard method is to knit the near side of the stitches, with the working stitches between you and most of the DPNs.

If you knit an entire sock inside out, finish the toe, turn it right side out, and congratulate yourself on a job well done.

It also can turn inside out if you set your project down, then pick it up and push the already knitted part the wrong way on the needles.
(Ask me how I know....)
