Using sex for induction? - Page 2

So glad that I'm not the only who who took a minute or two to get the 'hand slap foreheard' duh moment.

I admit it, I had the same thought. But, then I figure I'm entitled to a "DUH" moment or two when I'm A) pregnant, and B) uber tired after a long day.

Well it worked for me. At 41 weeks we finally decided to give it a try and it a half an hour later I was in labor. I tried tons of natural stuff before that with no luck.

Worked for me too. I was 5 days past EDD and my water broke followed by contractions about 1/2 hour after sex.

With my DD, we didn't have sex for two weeks - then we did it once and I was in labor four hours later, at only 38 weeks.

The mechanism is that prostagladins are hormones and in this case, this particular hormone is more easily absorbed in the digestive tract rather than via the reproductive system. Since dilation is hormonal, it makes some sense to me. I guess I think of it like tylenol for a headache. I don't rub the tylenol on my forehead, I swallow it.

As for the other type of not getting it...well...um...maybe someone else can explain. I don't want to get banned for UA violations... I am fairly certain that discussing oral recreation might get a mod giving me a warning.

ROFLMAO

sex didn't work for either of mine...both came a week late no matter what we did

I went to 42 weeks with my pregnancy. EVERYBODY told me to have sex (I live in the UK): midwife, friends, my dad... I have to confess that we had sex at least once a day during my pregnancy so in my opinion it doesn't work! But I think the period of abstinence beforehand might be the key.

In one of Ina May's books (can't remember which one) she says that, in her experience, women who have regular sex throughout pregnancy are *less likely* to go postdates than women who don't but she makes it clear that this is just an observation of hers not any type of study.

I personally agree with some of the PPs, it works if you're ready to go into labour anyway and doesn't if you're not.

Physiologically I would think that sex which combines nipple stimulation, application of prostaglandins and orgasm (for uterine contraction) would be the most likely to be effective.
