vaccine registry

so, i hear in MI, its the law that vaxes must be reported to the registry, unless the parent signs a form to decline the inclusion, AND that it is the law that the parents be presented with the opt-out form ahead of time. DS has gotten a few vaxes, and we never got this form. we've only signed one form, and that was the one with his name on it, and authorization to give medical info to the insurance company. there was nothing on there about vaxes. i checked.

i hate the idea of this info being "out there" so, now what? do i call the state, or should i address the ped? or both?

another thing: am i allowed(legally) to look at DS's chart? when i transferred from my OB, this ped was shocked that the OB office gave ME copies of MY chart, because "we NEVER do that!" i want to take a look at DS's chart, but i'm worried that I wont be "allowed" to. i know they dont have to let me if they dont have the time for it, but i dont need help to look at it, i'd like to just go through it on my own, ya know?

First of all you absolutely have the right to look at your child's medical chart. Just tell them you are aware of the HIPPA laws. Ask them to make copies of the entire chart for you. They can't refuse as this is illegal. I have gotten my child's chart from his ped when we changed doctors. All they had me do was sign a release before they gave me the copies.

As for the registry, don't bother with the ped, they have nothing to do with opting in or out. Here is the opt out form for the MCIR.

you need your MCIR number, so you may have to contact them to get that.

here is their info. Id call and ask for the opt out form and where you can find it. If they tell you that you cannot opt out, ask to see this officiallly in writing. Opt out if you can...it is a total invasion of privacy whether you vax or not.

How can you tell if your state is keeping a registry, and if your child is being reported? How do I even know if I need to opt out? I am in GA.

about the vaccine registry, there IS one in GA:
http://health.state.ga.us/programs/immunization/grits/

opt out form:
http://health.state.ga.us/pdfs/forms/grits008.03.pdf

if you don't want then to have your info, in GA anyway, you must opt-out. if your child has been vaccinated, s/he is in the registry(unless the doc failed to report it(which is illegal))

Anyone have the info for RI?

I know there is a registry (KIDSNET) but I don't know how to opt out...

And if your kid already had one vax (NOT state-supplied though) are they automatically already in it? Is it too late?

TIA!

You cannot opt out of KIDSNET, but you can restrict access to the info so that only the health dept and KIDSNET employees have access
