I've tried every trick in the book...

I realize I haven't been as active in this DDC as I was with DD, but it is still nice to check in every so often and see how everyone is doing. Always encouraging to read about how other people are going through the exact same thing as you. Makes you feel like you can really keep going at this sometimes daunting journey of pregnancy.

Anyway, I had several "scares" that our DS would be born a tad too early, but now I'm overdue. Kind of funny how that works out.

According to my fertility chart I think I ovulated between April 4-9, which puts my due dates between Dec. 26-29 (I joined this DDC though because I was 41+4 with DD and figured it would be somewhere around the same this time as well). So I'm somewhere between 41+4 and 42+2 at this point. I did have a midway ultrasound around 20 weeks where they gave me the due date of Jan. 7, but I know due dates from ultrasounds this late are not accurate (though according to my fertility chart there is a very slight possibility that this date works).

I've tried every trick in the book at this point from castor oil, to cohash and I even had my midwife strip my membranes yesterday. Every single time I have a few fairly intense contractions and it stops and nothing. So frustrating. Starting to worry that I'll have to go in and be induced.

So I guess this is my plea to have the labor vibes sent my way. I've spent the last hour or so reading some of the birth stories for inspiration. Maybe something will work!

have you tried accupucture? A lot of people have good luck with it...

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm on a bit of a clock, not because I have doctors breathing down my neck but because my blood pressure has been creeping up, and it would be better for all if the baby came sooner than later. I'm not due till Friday, though, and my first one was induced at 41w1d and it didn't work b/c she still wasn't ready at that point! I'm hoping this one's different!

(Have you tried dtd and then using a breast pump for 10 minutes on each side?)

I hope you are birthing soon!

Nipple twiddle and talk that baby out.

I find the most inspiring thing when I am down in this way is to read the birth stories from Ina May's Guide or Spiritual Midwifery. Those moms were so laid back.

So a little update...

My midwife wanted me to go in for an NST just to be safe. So I called up my backup OB to schedule it and whoa! The guy has completely flipped a switch. It was so disappointing. He said that I'm too much of a risk for his malpractice insurance, there's no way he'd be my backup, he's not responsible for my care, homebirths are dangerous, etc. I really don't know what happened to him.

So after talking with my midwife about everything we decided that a) my due dates from my fertility chart are likely off because I was still nursing DD and she wasn't sleeping through the night yet, b) I'm having a bunch of labor sign posts (bloody show, irregular contractions, etc.), and c) everything is going to be fine this baby will come when it's ready.

I was really mad and frustrated at first, but the more I think about it, the more I have just reaffirmed in myself that I trust my body and that pregnancy is a normal occurance in the female body that does not usually need to be treated and managed.

So hopefully baby will come soon, but I'm not stressing about it anymore.

Sounds like hard work! Sending labor prontissimo vibes your way, and I am thrilled to hear you are feeling more settled with the situation. It sounds like your midwife is taking excellent care of you and that you know you can do this!
