Do I need a crib?

I hope this is not a dumb question. I am confused whether I need to buy a crib if I plan to co-sleep? I moved to US 5 yrs back and lot of things to do with baby are new to me Back in my native country, my mom didn't use crib, bouncer, formula, disposable diapers etc. I am trying to understand what things I need to buy and what can wait.

My baby will be cared for by grandparents when I go back work. My mom has co-slept both her kids. So, should I buy a crib before the baby arrives?

Nope, don't need a crib. If the baby will be napping while with grandparents you might want to find a swing or portable crib (a common brand is pack-n-play) for your baby to sleep in when at the grandparents. If the grandparents are willing to bed-share for naps, you don't even need to do that!

I wouldn't buy one. We got one from a friend, set it up and it turned into a laundry hamper. I think DD slept in it once. If you plan on cosleeping you don't really need one. If cosleeping doesn't work for you then you can always go buy one.

We didn't ever have one. DS coslept til he was one, and then moved to his own bed for part of the the night. Now he sleeps all night on his own most of the time.

Whatever your mom had for you, plus whatever 'new' baby carrier (check out pouch slings and stretchy wrap slings!) seems like your style, should be plenty. Add in some warm clothes if you grew up in a hot climate, but don't go overboard on clothes since people adore buying clothes for babies.

This kind of makes me laugh because my son is now 15 months old and we still have the crib set up in our room and we never used it! I don't know why our culture sets such a high bar with those things. We co-sleep and when he started crawling around I put him on a futon mattress on the floor next to our bed for naps and before we go to bed. I found it more benifical to have a futon mattress on the floor so I can lay down and nurse him to sleep. Then when we go to bed he come sin bed with us.

I would say for your situation- no. We have a crib because it was free. BUt dd is 4 months and has never used it. I co sleep becaue I refuse to get up 4 times a night and feed her then try to put her back down. Not to mention the crib is in dd1's room and I am not going to wake her up either.
