How to find a Thrift Store?

I feel kinda stupid for asking this question. Are the Goodwill stores, thrift stores? I always thought you had to have a certain criteria for shopping there.
Any other way to locate one?

Goodwill are thrift stores, as are Salvation Army, Value Village, and a ton of smaller thrift stores.

Around here, thrift stores are not just for people of a certain income. They are run by charities (most of them--a few are for profit), and they are the major fund raiser for that charity. We have one that is for the local domestic violence shelter, for instance. People donate goods to the shelter, the shelter sells it, raises money, and they use that money to fund their program.

So, in effect, by shopping thrift, you're supporting charity.

You can usually find stores in the phone book.

yup, you can find a ton in the phone book.

in our town, there is a church called Liberty Church (or something), and they have numerous thrift stores: Liberty Thrift Baby, Liberty Thrift; Liberty Thrift Home Furnishings, etc etc etc. they have a TON of awesome stuff. and i should know, because i've also donated to them (when purging my house for our international move).

you don't have to be of a certain income to use it, and you'll find ones that you really, really love and use. i know i have favorites.

Right. They are for anyone to shop at. They use the profit that they make from selling things they got for free through donations to help qualified low income people.
