How many sucks/swallows per session

I am a low supply mom and am having to watch closely the sucks and swallows of my 1 week old baby. I have read that they should have 5-10 sucks/swallows and then pause and have "several" of these during their nursing session.

My question is....how many is several? My baby sometimes will suck and then swallow up to 25 times in a row and then won't do it again for 5 minutes.

Thanks

Did someone tell you to count the sucks and swallows? I've never heard of that being recommended - it sounds like it could really stress out the mom, being counterproductive.

How has it been determined that you have low supply? One week is still so early.

try the video here:

my baby does loads of swallowing during letdown, then some swallowing later on, then just sucking until she is either done with that breast or falls asleep. i burp her and offer her the other breast. she's more like the 'good drinking' video. i agree w/ pp. 1 week is really too early to tell that your supply is low. your milk just came in and you and baby are just getting to know one another. good luck!
