I'm due in early Feb and I've been doing hypnobabies since about 20 weeks. I did each section for 2 weeks rather than one and after that I've been doing a cross between the maintainance part and just listening to the ones I like best.
I didn't really have a program for my first child's birth, I just got through it. With the second we did Bradley, which was nice enough and really helpful for dh. With the third I read a lot of Ina Mae Gaskins' stuff and that really helped until the last couple of hours. I'm hoping to do better this time.
I absolutely hear you about not being able to stay awake through them, but I also wake up when the cd ends so I'm thinking it's hypnotic amnesia. I'm really bad about practicing the fingerdrops, but I listen to the cd's every night so hopefully it evens out. A side benefit has been that nine times out of ten the cd's knock out my kids as well as me, which has made bedtime a lot easier. Especially now when I'm so huge.

Am I missing much by only using these two things to 'study' from? What else is in the kit?

The cd's and the book are the major part of the kit. Otherwise there's a birth partner's guide (which is in the book, too) and some signs you can tack up in the hospital to explain things to the nurses. I would think you'd do just fine with only the book and the cd's.
