Preparing to Travel to Central America?

Hi! I'll be 17-18 weeks pregnant when we go on a little "babymoon" in March. We're going to Belize City, Roatan Honduras, and Costa Maya Mexico, for one day each (cruise).
What would you do to prepare?
Should I worry about mosquitoes, water, food, sun?
Do people get vaccinations for those countries?

I'll definitely get a note from my midwife for the cruise and talk to her about preparing, but I love to hear from different people as well!

Thanks!

vaccines are always controversial. Depending on who you talk to, and how freaked out they are by travel in the tropics (most people and drs. who haven't been there are pretty freaked out), you'll hear that you don't need anything or you need EVERYTHING.

Just remember, you can do a lot of behavior modifications and food choices that will limit your exposure to any potential illness-causing viruses or bacteria. You don't have to get vaccines.

Especially if you're just on a cruise...I would think you should just be safe about drinking sealed bottled water (and lots of it), use a little bug spray if need be, and know what foods to avoid (lettuce, washed fruit, etc.).

At that state of development, for the kind of minimal exposure you'll have, I would NOT get vaxed for anything.
