Traveling with 2 - stroller Q's

We're taking a family vaca in 3 weeks and I am starting to think about my stroller options. I have a 20-month old and a 4-month old. Currently we own a Chicco brand stroller that is kinda big and bulky and not easily maneuverable. I also have one of the snap-n-go's, but I'm not planning on bringing the car seat with us. then I have a little-bit-bigger-than-an-umbrella type stroller that's fine for the older kid but doesn't lay flat for an infant. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to bring 2 big bulky strollers or to find one on craigslist that might be better suited for us. Like, should I get a single stroller that can be used for either kid, like a peg perego pram stroller? or maybe I should just bite the bullet and find a double? I dont knowww!

thanks!

Do you wear the baby? If you do, absolute simplest option would be to bring a carrier (or 2, or more....if you're an obsessive carrier collector like me! ) for the baby and umbrella stroller for the toddler.

If you're not a babywearer and plan to fly (which I assume from your post you're doing since you weren't going to bring a carseat), I would vote carseat + snap n go for baby, umbrella stroller for toddler. Car seat is easy enough to put through as checked baggage (or keep in the seat with baby, if you've purchased a separate seat for him/her) and snap n go is light enough to carry on.

I would get a double.

Are you traveling alone? What will you be doing on vacation?

It sounds like you will be traveling with your partner and two kids. If that's the case, I would probably skip the stroller for this trip. They ar so big and bulky and I rarely use mine on vacation, or really at all. When I do, I use my Maclaren Volo which is perfect for us, folds up small so it doesn't take up a ton of room. I don't really use the stroller for the under-2 crowd, though.

If you will have two adults, I would bring 2 compact strollers. For us, that means traveling with 2 peg perego P3's (well, one is an older pliko). They fold up just a bit bigger than an umbrella stroller, but push very smoothly and can lay flat, have a basket, and have a canopy. Also, b/c we have four children, both have a small step on the back that is a lifesaver for getting through airports, or long walks to places. I woudln't take anything that is big and cumbersome, or difficult to fold. Personally, unless I was traveling alone, I would avoid a double.

that's exactly what i'm thinking. one sling, my beco, and i found a peg perego roma for $50 on craigslist. at least this way we can have one kid running around and one in a carrier.

btw we're going to jamaica (YAYYYY!) at some family resort that gives you a nanny for the duration of your stay! so the stroller will be great for when we ask her to take a kid or two for a walk. but it will be dh and i, plus both grandparents, so we'll have plenty of help when we are there. the difficult part will be the airports, when it will just be dh and me and the babes.

thanks yall!

I've never met anyone else who does this, but we routinely put both our boys in a single stroller, starting from when DS2 was maybe 4-5 months old and able to sit/recline on DS1's "lap" -- between his legs, basically. DS1 is 14.5 months older. They are now 3 and 2 and still love to travel like that, one behind the other in the a single stroller that is folded down completely.

It started when MIL was watching the kids and had trouble maneuvering the double in and out of the elevator in our building (I almost always slung DS2 at that stage so it wasn't relevant for me). I was a little skeptical at first, but except for a few short phases when DS2 decides he wants to pester DS1, as I said, it works great.

My kids are big, btw, both over 30 lbs, and we use both a Graco and a Peg Perego (both Freecycle hand-me-downs).
