im want to start cloth diapering and im very confused about how this works lol I saw all in one diapers for $17. do you insert something? do i have to buy like 8 diapers or do they have something thats like a diaper cover i guess that you put something in it and when its dirty you can just take that part out and replace it? i know this probably sounds ridiculous but i really have no idea how this works could someone please explain?

Nope, all-in-one diapers are just one piece. Ones that have inserts that go between the baby and the cover are all-in-two diapers (because there are two pieces unlike an all-in-one). Pockets are like all-in-ones except the absorbent layer is not attached, you slide it inside the pocket inside the diaper (the insert does not touch baby directly).

The only caveat I have to add is that some places call diapers "all in one" when they are really not (often this is those inexpensive made-in-china diapers). Also, some diapers are hybrids, meaning you can use them in different ways.

Then there are separate diapers and covers: for this you would have a stand-alone cover, and the absorbent part would be a fitted diaper, a prefold, or a flat (all of which have no water-proofing built in). Clear as mud? LOL

Here are a couple of little "tutorials" that explain the most basic types of diapers:
