I'm almost 26 weeks pregnant. This morning I fell in a very slick parking lot. There was black ice which I obviously did not see and when I stepped out of the vehicle, down I went. I put my arm behind me to catch myself from falling any harder or from falling on my stomach. The only thing that I hurt was the top of my tailbone.. and man does it hurt! I don't necessarily think anything is wrong with the baby because she's been having movements like she usually does, especially when I lay on my left side. And I've not been bleeding or having any stomach pain/discomfort. I just worried myself sick so that does make me feel a little queesy. I called my doctor's nurse and told her everything but she must not be too concerned because she didn't return my call. Has anyone else fallen and do you think everything is fine? (Besides my bruised butt! lol)

I fall.. a lot. Pregnant or not, I am just a klutz. I am sure baby is okay - the only thing I would be concerned about is your tailbone/pelvis/spine, since trauma there can flare up during delivery and make things more painful. I'm not sure how much a midwife/OB could do, other than make sure nothing is broken, but a chiropractor or cranial sacral therapist would be able to help get your body back into alignment. I broke my tail bone (falling on ice!) a few years ago, and recently a cranial sacral therapist was able to feel that, and help my pelvis shift enough so it doesn't ache as much.

i actually had a partial placental abruption at 17 weeks... (not due to a fall but rather avoiding a car accident)
at 39 weeks (new years day to be specific) I fell on ice... and landed on my bottom like you
with my previous history from the abruption... i was rushed to the ER for a checkup but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the little man... NST even came back perfectly fine. I didnt hurt anything more than a bruise on my bum.
for your little one... as long as you do not get any abdominal pains you are likely going to be okay. generally they are better cushioned in there than we ever are once we are out of the womb!

I fell on the stairs during my first pregnancy, and they had me come in for a check-up. The doc said that the concern later in pregnancy is that the placenta may become detached from the uterine wall, and clearly this could pose problems for both you and the baby. He mentioned it's of particular concern for Rh- moms, because I guess the injury/detachment could result in some blood mixing, and the rhogam shot would be needed if the mother hadn't gotten it already.
In other words, I think it was smart to call the doc just in case.

I'm a bit of a klutz also, and I was just thinking yesterday how I was amazed I had not fallen yet.. then this happened this morning! It was about 3:30am, though.. and I've not had any types of pain (except for my tailbone) it seemed to ease up after I rested for a few hours, still sore though. I can sit now, at least!
About the placental abruption, I also read about detachment and such but if that had happened I would be feeling some discomfort, shouldn't I? I'm trying not to worry.. it's been quite a few hours since but I'm still a little worried.
I am RH- but had the shot a couple months back and am due to get another one on the 27th. No bleeding from this accident, though.
Doctor or nurse still has not returned my call. I'm thinking if I do have any discomfort in my stomach tomorrow I will just go in.

when i had my abruption it started out feeling a lot like indigestion or heartburn (only lower) and eventually developed into a pain so bad that I feared I had appendicitis.... which is what sent me to the ER in the first place with it. However, with that... after 2 weeks of bedrest and being told to take it easy the rest of the pregancy (almost 22 weeks once I was off of bedrest!) it did not turn out to be a problem for me at all, we had allowed it to heal properly
when I had him though, there was still a HUGE clot on the placenta where it tore... like between the size of a golf ball and a baseball!

yeah, the only problem it caused was being in pain and sick to my stomach (the pain was so bad it was causing me to get sick) through my grampas funeral... as it was the night before, on my way to wisconsin for the funeral, that we almost got in the accident.
now that I think of it though... it did take a little while (a few hours) for the pain to come around to the point that I noticed it... so do pay attention and if it starts to hurt yet today/tomorrow... get checked ASAP... if it doesnt hurt though... id just let the doctors office do what they deem necessary.
it IS fixable in most cases (through bedrest but still...) but you do not want to put it off if theres even a chance of it.

Lol yeah it's scary!
The nurse FINALLY contacted me back, but it was near closing time.. so she told me to come up there in the morning for reassurance and to check the heartbeat. But if I had any unusual pain/cramps to go to the ER as soon as I could. Said to take it easy, which I've been trying to rest but it's hard with this backache and butt pain :P HOPEFULLY everything is fine. I think I'm worrying myself sick, still.

I did that on my front step a couple weeks ago. I fell on the ice and onto the step so the top step is what I hit with my back. I bruised the very bottom of my back too. It hurt for like a week but everyone's still alive LOL I'm 27 weeks now. I'd say just to lay on your side and sit at an angle but if the baby's moving as usual, probably nothing to worry about
I fell asleep around 8 and just woke up a bit ago.
My pelvic area was kind of pulsing along with some of my stomach, but after I got up and sat straight up, the baby was moving around. Is this pulsing any sort of preterm labor sign at all? That's what I'm worried about the most. And I'd absolutely be freaked out if it were, especially because these roads are so icy and the ER is 30 minutes away.

I'm glad you're going in for a check-up, and I want to ditto the point to PLEASE take this seriously. My neighbor fell not too badly on the stairs at 36 weeks and within 2 days started bleeding, which quickly turned into massive bleeding and a frantic rush to the hospital. It was clearly an abruption and she had an immediate c-section, which saved her daughter's life.
Obviously she was a little further along than you when the risk of abruption is greater, but after hearing her story, if I fall in any kind of hard way, I know I'll be driving myself in IMMEDIATELY to make sure everything is okay.
Best wishes that everything is okay!

Aghh, now TODAY my tailbone is just a tiny bit better, but it's mostly my back. Sharp pains often up my back... around my sides, also. I think I'm just sitting too long, or staying in one position that's causing the pain. Baby's frollicking around inside just fine. But every now and then I'll get a weird feeling kind of under my breasts, and a pain in my lower parts. Thought I possibly had some braxton hicks contractions but wasnt for sure.. because throughout this pregnancy so far sometimes my tummys been harder than others. No serious pain, but definitely uncomfortable. :S

Ugh, mama, I'm so sorry! I fell hard when I was about 7 mos. pregnant with DD. She was totally fine, but I pulled my psoas and it was quite painful until after I gave birth. 2 years later, it's still not healed up all the way. Everything is so pushed and stretched and loose that it is soooo easy to get a more serious injury from a fall like that when pregnant. If you have a really knowledgeable massage therapist and/or chiropractor that you can go to, I highly recommend it. Furthermore, if the injury bothers your for the remainder of your pregnancy - don't forget about it after giving birth. Get some follow up care - physical therapy etc. - to make sure it heals up well. I wish I had done that!
