ok, my temporary fix in a similar situation (back in college) was to put pictures on them.
since our house was very colorful and our dishes had a very island feel, i went with Gauguin. I had inexpensive prints laminated, and then just used double-sided tape to hold them on.
for drawers and the like, my sister and i just laminated colored paper in a specific shape (using a stencil), and then put them on with double-sided tape.
it was colorful, easy to clean, and covered the things i did not like.
now, i would do this in a pinch, and then when i had the money saved up, i would get new faces/fronts on them in a look that i liked.
