My heart goes out to these poor people. I am so sad.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - A powerful earthquake hit the impoverished country of Haiti on Tuesday, collapsing the presidential palace and raising fears of substantial casualties in what the country’s U.S. ambassador called “a major disaster.”

I know! I am really grieving over this and a little perplexed that most of the people in my life haven't even mentioned it. I have no ties to Haiti, but just the utter human devastation is just heartbreaking.

I am holding the Haitians in my heart today . . .

for those that have passed . . .

for those that remain trapped . . .

for those that have sustained injuries and have little to no recourse to medical aid . . .

and perhaps worst of all, to those who have lost loved ones . . .

and for those watching and waiting, not knowing if their loved ones are alive or okay . . .

you are in my thoughts and prayers.

President Obama is giving a live speech about it right now.

So tragic.

Lighting a candle for the people of Haiti, and their loved ones. They were already in such need. Here's hoping the world will come together to help.

It is so sad...

I live in Ottawa & have many colleagues, neighbours, friends with direct ties....the devastation is unbelievable. I encourage everyone to donate to their preferred humanitarian organization.

I keep thinking about the people of Haiti and all that they have gone through and what is yet to come. Mainly, I keep thinking about the children. I saw a report about a 15 day old baby girl whose mother was killed and all I could think about was 'how will she eat?'. And what about the mamas who are about to give birth or the mamas who lost a child and it makes my heart hurt.

My heart is breaking over this. I just can't imagine what they're going through. I feel so helpless; I wish I could do more.

We are still unable to get in touch with a family member there. His phone rings but never goes to voicemail or anything. He is not a US citizen and is with a peacekeeping mission from Africa, so the state dept. #'s and info have been no help for us. We have heard that 2 out of the group are missing.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Talk about heart wrenching. I can hardly bear to watch the images. I feel helpless and even though I've made donations, there is a niggling feeling of not doing enough.

I've donated by purchasing a couple of things through Hearts for Haiti:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/heartsforhaiti

This is an Etsy collective of donated items from hundreds of Etsy shops to raise money to rebuild Haiti. 100% of the proceeds from this shop go directly to Doctors Without Borders.
