Crying with a bowel movement

My 8mo took to solids in the last week after only sampling for a month or so. Today he seemed distressed when having a bowel movement and he grimaced and cried for a couple of minutes and then was fine. The bowel movement was more formed than breastfed poop, but not hard. He has eaten carrots, coconut oil, sweet potato, avocado and cultured butter in the last few days and had carrots and avocado today. The only new thing in the last few days is avocado and cultured butter. Everything else he nibbled on for the past few weeks, esp coconut oil.

No history of allergies.

Also I think this is unrelated but I fed him pureed avocado tonight that was from a couple of days ago and had browned some. After a few bites I realized it probably didn't taste very good (smelled and tasted, wasn't too great) so I tossed it and fed him some carrots. He got the hiccups and threw up the carrots 10 min later. He didn't cry at all and didn't seem bothered but was mellow before throwing up and his normal jumpy self afterward. I am wondering if the avocado didn't sit well and upset his tummy?

Any thoughts?

Well, when my dd was starting solids, pooping was definitely was a different sensation for her. Maybe he's just reacting to it feeling different? You might use this as an opportunity to put him on a tiny potty when you can tell that he's pooping, and it might feel better to him to poop there? Just a thought...

Well, since I have an extremely allergic kiddo, I have a lot of thoughts LOL. If I were in your shoes, I would start over. Pull all of the solids for a week to clear his system, than reintroduce foods VERY slowly. Sweet potatoes can be constipating.. and the carrots are hard to digest. TMI question, but look closely at his poo, are there bits of undigested carrot?

My first thought when reading the post was "CARROTS!" My dd has painful bm's, not hard, just painful, from carrots *when she was still eating them*

I was initially thinking that it's just harder to get out, where previously it would just all squirt out with no effort He's pooped a little bit daily where he used to poop a big one every four days.

That's a thought to start over. He genuinly seems hungry so I hesitate, he's loved the food, my supply isn't what it could be and he's exclusively one-sided and started sleeping so much better in the last few days. I know many say on here that it's just for learning, but my milk is on the low end and hasn't responded too much to pumping (he already eats every two hours during the day and was at night for a while).

I did look at it before scraping into the toilet and I didn't notice any orange, however it was pureed so there wouldn't be chunks or anything right? It was the normal yellowy color.

ETA he hasn't cried other days, it was only today but he did have carrots other days.

LOL.. duh.. the carrots would be puree'd since he's only 8 months.. my bad there

If he's really hungry, I would avoid the carrots definitily and no more cultured butter *that could have actually been the trigger* I doubt it was the avacado though, and that's a good 1st food!! I'm a bit hateful of carrots, since they caused my dd so much pain.. so your ds may be perfectly ok with carrots..they did cause painful poo's though, like you son had

Ok, thanks. I'll hold off on carrots esp since he threw them up (and they didn't go down easily and I was wondering why he was reacting, the texture was like other foods). He didn't refuse them though so I offered more bites then stopped.

He loves drinking from a cup (or trying to) so I'll keep practicing that with him with water.
