Buying boys clothes for yourself

So this weekend I had a huge realization. My oldest son is almost 10 and my husband is a very tall man so he is a big boy. He needed new tennis shoes and we went to Target and the pair we bought him was on sale for $4.75

When we got home I was looking at the shoes and they looked like my size (I wear an 8.5) so I tried them on and they fit. I went back and bought myself a pair in a different color combo because I have needed tennis shoes FOREVER. I have also used some of his winter clothes in a pinch. Anyway, I had never thought to look for sale items for myself in the boys section, but I do think that Target marks down things like children's snow boots and whatnot much lower than adults so I thought would pass this on to those of you who don't yet have BIG kids in the house! I am also going to think more outside of the box at the thrift store!!!

Yeah, we have a policy of "if it fits, wear it" for everything. The girls wear the boys' outgrown clothes, I don't care, neither do they. I wear DH's clothes sometimes as well (shirts only).

I just bought 2 mens long-sleeved tee-shirts for myself at Target for $2.74 each. I don't quite fit into the boys sized clothes, but I try to cruise the mens clearance if I have a chance.

I actually found jeans that fit me really well - in the mens department! Shocking for me actually, because I have curves. But, they're a low-rise relaxed fit. They've actually got some room-to spare in the leg... I hate how all the womens jeans I've tried on are skin tight in the thigh (while being loose in the waist.. ugh!).

I actually discovered this because I was being silly one evening and tried on dh's new jeans. So then I went back to the store and bought the same jeans in a different size (longer inseam too).

If it fits, go with it.

I have small feet and buy kids shoes all the time..I only wear converse and it is soooo much cheaper. I also buy kids pjs My DS and I have matching ones...lol.

I have big feet so I often but men's tennis shoes or boots. But the same does hold for t-shirts, etc! They do tend to be cheaper!

Depending on the cut of the shoe or the clothing, I always try the kids section first.

My winter coat was $10 out of the kid's department. I love that it has a label on the inside to write the name of a school and the name of teacher. LOL! Cracks me up!

I'm going to have to check out the mens dept for jeans. We were just shopping for pants for DH yesterday and I was amazed at the different sizes they had. Leg lengths available included 28, 30, 32, 34, and 36! In the women's section it's all 32 with a few 30s thrown in (I need 34 or 36, lol). Why the heck is that? They had a lot of different waist sizes too, so it's not like they were sacrificing there. I'm not sure how they would fit me though, but it will be an interesting expriment.

I always check the lil boys section when I need new shoes. I can usually find something for about half the price I would pay for a similar womens shoe! I also love cargo shorts, and sometimes I can't find them in the womens section, but they are always available in mens/boys!

I do this too! I realized a few years ago that a nice rain jacket from the boy's section of REI was waaaay less expensive then the women's section... like 1/4th of the price. I haven't looked back.

Something for kids aren't made as well as the item for the adult, but you get what you pay for, and some times, it just doesn't matter.

My rainjacket has held up really well, and it gets a lot of use since we live in portland

I have boys Teva's that were 15 less than women's. I have had them for overr10 years. (I dod need new ones but that's pretty good considering all the walking and hiking I do)

Must be something in the air, because I noticed this recently, too. I was cold and grabbed my son's jacket and was surprised that it fit so well. We were out with friends at the time and I got a ton of nice compliments. My poor son had to stop telling people it was his jacket.

I'll have to check out boy's shorts. I really, really hate the way women's shorts fit -- they are always too short on me or too long and skinny.
