Sanitizing pacis

I found quite a few of DS#1's old paci's the other day that I would like to use for DS#2. What is the best way to get them clean?

Is it even safe to use them after they've been used and around for a few years? I would think the plastic would be worn or start deteriorating... IMO, I would think it would be safer to toss them and get new ones. But if you want to reuse them, I would carefully check them for wear, then wash them in hot soapy water and steam sterilize (if it is okay to do that with the pacifiers you have).

Pacifiers are only supposed to be used for 3 months and then thrown away and replaced.

Wed on;'t use the paci very often (DD doesn't really care for it), but if we drop it on the floor or if one of the dogs takes a slurp at it, it came with a little plastic cover that you fill with water and put in the microwave. I think they were called "Playtex Ortho" and they came in a 2 pack with the little cover 9Which doubles as a keeper so you can chuck it in the diaper bag without getting crumbs and whatnot all over the pacis.

Yes, the plastic can break down on some pacifiers, but that 3-month rule sounds like a lot of marketing broo-ha and big companies just building in obsolescence so they can sell you more pacifiers.

I say if it's in good shape (tug at it, inspect it) (and especially if it's BPA-free), just wash it with warm, soapy water and go for it.
