My 9mo would rather eat dirt than solids...

He's gotten into the "look I have a pincer grip and can pick up EVERYTHING I come across." Just when I think I've vacuumed well he proves me wrong.

Anyway, he doesn't have this same point of view toward solids.

When he picks things up off of the floor and puts them in his mouth there's no real reaction in his face (except "I hope she didn't see me") But give him a bite of banana/sweet potato/reg potato/etc... and I get the biggest "WTF YUCK" face ever. And then he spits it out. Dirt/paper/feathers he'll eat...but FOOD grosses him out?

Normal?

I wouldn't worry about it. My DD is 11 months and I started introducing solids at 6.5 months. She just started consistently eating for me at 10.5 months and she still has days that she refuses. Have you tried giving him finger foods instead of you spoon feeding him? Cut up small pieces of banana, avocado, sweet potato etc and let him feed himself? That often worked for my "little miss independent"! I also use a little mesh teething thing (not sure what the real name is) that I can put things in...like pear, apple etc and she loves that and can hold it herself etc.

Yeah, I've tried just leaving food in front of him and spoon feeding and the mesh feeder. He was interested for a while when he was about 7 months... but I think it was just new.
He's WAY independent too. When I spoon feed HE has to hold the spoon and guide it to his mouth.
We're going to try cheerios next...maybe if it looks like "crap on the floor" he'll try it.

Sounds completely like my DD at that age. She went through spurts starting at around 11 months when she would actually eat some amount of food, and then quit again. It's only been within the last few months (she's 15 mo) that she has started consistently eating a good quantity of solids.

I even tried putting the solids on the floor for her once to discover on her own. She caught on to me and was not fooled!

Yes, as much as I hate it...my DD LOVES teething biscuits!! When in doubt I just give her one of those and it makes her happy. But your babe is getting everything he needs from you and from what I have read in this forum it is pretty common for breastfed babies to take a while to get into the solids. My DD puts EVERYTHING in her mouth too...I will just have mopped the floor and she can find the smallest piece of lint or dirt and put it right in her mouth! At least she has good vision!

DH suggested I leave it on the floor and the first time he picks it up fish it out of his mouth (like we do everything else he eats) and maybe he'll figure it's something cool and actually eat it. (he was kind of kidding)
