early/easier reader books with girl characters

Ds (2yo) has taken to really liking early reader books as bedtime books. Frog and Toad and Little Bear are the ones we have right now. I think the simple, repetitive language, and the kinda boring plots help him chill out for sleep. We also read several at his grandparent's house that they had saved from dp's childhood.

Well, they all have male main characters. So I am looking for some with female main characters. We try to switch the pronouns around, but it is hard to remember when also trying to read in a calming voice, etc.

I just need to get to a bookstore and peruse, but it would be cheaper for me to know some titles, and then try to get them used on Amazon and half.com.

Any suggestions would be great thanks.

What about Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa, or the Amanda Pig books?

Bread and Jam for Frances comes to mind immediately. Frances is a girl badger, and there are other stories about her as well.

We have a frances book somewhere...i'll have to look for it... we put a lot of books "away" in our "library"

We picked up cowgirl kate at a bookstore going out of business this weekend (40% off) ds likes it (he wants to wear his rainboots all the time like "cowkatecooca") although its a little more "exciting" than Little Bear and Frog and Toad, but I think that might be the illustrations and colors and stuff.

thanks...

if anyone has more suggestions I'd love to hear (read) them!
