buying a used ergo

Is there anything I need to be aware of looking for a used ergo? Any safety issues from something wearing out?

Can you look at it before you buy? If so, I would check all the straps and buckles to make sure everything is in proper working order. If you are ordering it from someone, I'd ask for close-up pictures of these parts. I would think an Ergo would have to be used an awful lot for an awful long time before it would be worn out, it's such a sturdy carrier.

Also, there have been cases of 'knockoff' Ergos being sold on craigslist and ebay in particular. I would get close up pictures and check very carefully...

Ours would qualify for this . I carried DS in the Ergo almost everyday for almost 3 years. The buckle on it is pretty much shot so I gotta find a new carrier for upcoming babe after he or she gets a little big for the Moby.

You can buy buckle parts at REI or MEC, they're for back packs but will work for the Ergo and if you're not a sewer and it's a buckle that needs to be sewed on, some locations will do the repair for you. Alternatively, try other outdoor and camping equipment stores.

About the "knockoff" ergos -- If it has the ergo tag is that enough? How else would I tell the difference?
