woven wrap help

Is there a trick to a woven wrap that I'm missing? I know there's a learning curve, and maybe I'm just not giving it enough time. I'm using a SPOC DIY type; I have about 5 yards of muslin. Is that my problem? DD2 loves the snugli. I don't. But I keep going back to it because it's easy and she sleeps in it while she cries in the other. Looking for a few hints to give it another try before I bite the bullet and buy an ergo.

is the muslin scratchy? is it comfortable for YOU? i have several DIY SPOC wraps too and my DD2 is just happy to be near me, although sometimes she wants out to see the word AND me at the same time...

is the carry you're using for the wrap similar to the snuggli? (i.e. tummy to tummy, cradle..)

check youtube for great wrapping videos. i hope i can get the hang of back carries with DD2..didn't s'much with DD1 but also didn't really NEED to..

HTH!

how are you tying the wrap? There are lots of different ways to do it. Also, the weave and thickness of the fabric can make a big difference in comfort levels. With thinner fabric, you need to be more careful wrapping to smooth out any bunches or you'll get painful pressure points on you or babe...

The fabric feels fine to me. I tried the wrap where you fold it in half length-wise first to make a pocket for the baby, and I tried the one that you usually see with the moby where you tie first and then put the baby in.

How big is your baby? Most people seem to love a stretchy wrap like a Moby for the first few months. I know I couldn't get us very comfy in my woven wrap until dd was maybe 3 or 4 months? There's a great video called Tummy 2 Tummy and probably the youtube videos could really help too... do you have any local resources? We have an awesome mama who leads an AP parenting group here, and helps new parents with babywearing. Plus now we're offering a babywearing class at the store where I work. My LLL group and AP playgroup are also full of experienced babywearing mamas... sometimes the in-person trouble-shooting is invaluable.
