Careers and Homeschooling

I am very interested in home-schooling or unschooling my kids rather than sending them to school in a few years, they are 1 and 3 right now. I have always felt that I would love to do it and that it is really the best thing I could do for them as well, but I just hadn't made an absolute decision yet. However, last night after attending a little talk featuring a renowned unschooling mother and speaker I felt so inspired and became convinced that there is almost no way I can't do it, it just seems so natural and right and not to mention, like so much fun, spending those years with my kids and helping and watching them discover the world.

But I will get to the point of my question...I guess the only thing really holding me back from knowing 100% that I want to do this, and hopefully this doesn't sound selfish, is that I always envisioned myself having some sort of career, not a 9-5 office job per se, but that I would find something I really loved doing, become really good at it and make a living doing that, I was attempting to pursue that path up until a few years ago when I first became pregnant, exploring possible careers, but then motherhood happened and is of course the greatest blessing and I have been fortunate enough to have the financial support of my partner so that I have been able to devote myself to that full time. But, I imagined that once my kids were older and in school I would have a chance again to develop that side of myself and my life. So that is where homeschooling gets tricky. I know people homeschool and work, generally with a home-based business I guess. I am like 98% there, I am just curious about this.

I would love to hear others' thoughts and/or experiences. thanks.

I am going to school right now for web design. I wanted something that I could do from home, made a decent amount of $ and that could be interesting. I am hoping that it is all three

I have a career (RN), and I homeschool. I don't work traditional hours, and neither does dh, but together we both work and homeschool. I think it gets easier as the kids get older, too...

I'm currently in nursing school right now. It seems that RN and homeschooling are a common combination! One of my instructors even homeschools her kids.

My husband has a home business as a knifemaker, which is good, as he can work around my schedule and provide at least basic supervision for the kids while I'm gone.

To be honest, in my situation, I've decided that mama-ing & homemaking is & will always be my career. There are things I am passionate about (I went to college in veterinary medicine before meeting my DH), but none that I am passionate enough about that I would sacrifice these yrs home with my shorties. I do hope that one day I might be able to make some income from selling products off our land that we don't even own yet (such as raw milk, produce, etc), but I wouldn't have to leave home for that.

I'm a respiratory therapist in a hospital, like an nursing job there is a lot of flexibility with hours and schedules. I love the job, but am burnt out right now.
I work about 60 to 80 hours a month and make over 25,000 a year, though I do have many years of experience and tons of credentials. It is possible to work full time and home school if you have a reliable sitter or a partner with a flexible schedule. DH has a job where he travels three weeks or more at a time.
