Maybe a facial tic? Spasm?

Hey guys! Im calling the Ped today but I just wanted your input!

Dd2 (8 months old) has been having a muscle spasm in her face for 4 days now. Its happened about 3 times a day. Her lip curls up like Elvis at the same time her eye on the same side squints. She is completely normal every other way. She does it while playing or babbling and keeps going, no interruption.

The advise nurse thought that her feeding rate (gtube fed) was too high or it could be her acid reflux. I turned the rate down on Sunday and she stil did it twice yesterday and once today so far. Ideas? Suggestions? I doubt I could get it on video, its too fast, but I DO notice it. Its only on the right side.

I would worry that it's seizure activity. She was tested for 22q, right? I know you mentioned it before, she has several symptoms common in the syndrome. Seizures are very common, but are usually caused by hypocalcemia, and I believe they are more likely to be grand-mal.

I'm not well-versed on tube feeds, but how could that cause this? And I don't even buy the reflux reasoning...reflux can cause back arching and head turning (Sandifers syndrome) but I've never heard of it causing only facial movements, especially on only one side of the face.

Yeah, negative on the 22q. I made an appt for the 29th, thats literally the earliest she could be seen. I explained very carefully what I saw to the nurse. She does it before she spits up /throws up and the spasm started the day after we upped her rate from 125ml an hr to 195ml an hour. Thats a HUGE jump and I think thats why the nurse thought reflux.

It is odd that she only does it on one side but Im not freaking out or feeling anxious when I see it. No "radar" is going off for me. Im going to call later and see if I cant get in to the doc faster. Id rather not wait 2 weeks!

She IS hypocalcimic and is on calcium supplement.

Every seizure video Ive look up look nothing like what shes doing.

No help to offer but if you can get it on video, that would probably help the docs. Because she won't do it at all for them!
