So I've seen lots of threads about how many diapers you need, but how about wipes? I've restarted cloth diapering my toddler and soon I'll have a newborn in cloth! I'm finding continuing to use disposable wipes to be very annoying. So cloth wipes it is! But how many do I need? My toddler poops anywhere between 1 and 4 times in one day. Who knows how often the newborn will poop. I wash every other day. So how many wipes should I buy?

I"m no expert, since I just started cloth 2 months ago when my DS was born. But I have 25 double sided wipes (terry/flat) plus 30 flannels. I wash every 2 days, sometimes 3, and come close to running out before each wash. So I think 45 or so is good for the newborn. Add in what you'll need for the toddler, and get that many. The double sided are more expensive (got them from GMD) but I do use 1.5 sides each time for poos. I like the flannels for just pees. (you can make your own from old tshirts, too).

I wash every third day, have one in diapers, and have a stash of about 100 wipes, give or take. I had more in rotation when I had two in diapers.
I'd say that's a good working number. Also, I've found that you'll use less quantities of cloth wipes than you will with disposables. (I would go through 4 or 5 disposables on a seriously messy diaper that can be cleaned with 1 or 2 cloth wipes.)

I started out with about 40 wipes and it was okay. I have about 100 now and I'm very happy. However, I'm a huge wipe waster. I go through a ton of wipes for no apparent reason. I use them for all sorts of kid-mess related things, plus I always use one to put under his tushie when I change him. Then, I go through like 2 or 3 wipes on the most insignificant messes. My husband teases me about it all the time. I will probably be throwing together about 50 more wipes before March when I'll have 2 in diapers.

I started with about 2 dozen flannel wipes (cut out of flannel and not sewn) and a one old t-shirt's worth of wipes (again cut not sewn). That didn't seem to be enough and they kept "disappearing."
Okay, I admit I started using them for nighttime breast pads and random baby-related clean ups (snot and drool). We loved the t-shirt wipes because they were soft and absorbant, so I cut up a few more old shirts. I'm not sure how many we have now, but I'd estimate it at 4-5 dozen. I use them for everything!

I started out with 50 wipes (although now we have about 40... the dryer prefers wipes to socks apparently).
Right now we wash every other day, and in those 2 days I might use 24 wipes. I ONLY use them for his poopy diapers, and every poopy diaper gets 2 wipes - 1 for the mess, 1 for clean-up. I use burp cloths for everything else, not wipes.
