Having a hard time getting started with weaning...

I had planned to wean my 7 mo old son last month, but because he still wakes every 2 hours to nurse, I keep postponing it for another month, and then another month. Now I'm looking at Feb. Starting solids a couple of weeks ago has not helped him sleep through the night, as my pediatrician had suggested it would. I just can't imagine weaning if he still wakes up every 2-3 hours because my nights would be awful if I had to actually get up and prepare a bottle versus side lying nursing where I can at least sleep and not be a zombie during the day.

I'm 45 and want to try for baby #2 (frozen embryos) and have to have two periods before the dr will attemp the transfer, and time is running out with my "advanced" age in case the FET doesn't work.

Any advice?

Also, how do I introduce a sippy cup or a bottle? Should I try to substitute a nursing with a sippy cup or offer it in between nursings?

honestly, there's no guarantee that weaning will make your child suddenly sleep all night. and now you'll have the extra fun step of getting up to make a bottle, which i can tell you from experience, sucks at 2am when all you want to do is sleep. i would, personally, try some other methods of getting him to sleep while still nursing. for instance, my baby won't sleep longer than 1-2hrs if he's in bed with me but will sleep 7+hrs in his own bed. when he's in my bed, he wakes himself up trying to get at me and my boobs, and then he eats until he vomits.
i'm sure all these smart mamas on here will have lots of good advice for you.

I know 4 months seems like forever, but can you wait until he is a year old, and then nightwean using Dr. Jay Gordon's plan? Like the PP said, there is no garuntee that baby will stop waking up even when weaned.

Kellymom.com has some pages about weaning (i think).. maybe check those out?
