Is it possible to not dilate at all...like my cervex just won't?? - Page 2

two of my 3 were 16 days past their EDD. don't let the dr.s rush you in any way. babies know when its time!

As hard as it is at that point in pregnancy, WAIT!!! I went through the SAME thing, i was more dialated at 32 wks than 41! I had a CNM who saved me from an "emergency" c-section. I allowed myself to be pushed into something I knew I didn't NEED, because it all seems really scary when the dr tells you that, and I was TIRED of being pregnant already! Make up your mind, and stay stong, no matter what you decide is best for you.

I don't usually dilate until I'm well into labour. Early labour and prodromal labour contractions don't do much to my cervix but then when my body starts it really goes fast! With my son, I was 2cms dilated after being in labour for 6 hours and went for another walk and felt a pop and had tons of bloody show and in that 40 minute walk I dilated to 8.
I'm expecting the same thing this time around. Here I am pregnant with my third and having tons of prodromal contractions and it's not doing a single thing to my cervix. Baby's head is still high too. But I know that when I finally go into labour my body will know hwat to do and it'll kick into high gear.

I agree... don't let yourself be bullied into an induction. Inductions come with so many potential complications... more so than if you were just allowed to wait until your body was ready to go on it's own. If your dr. is really pushing an induction and you don't want one see ifyou can do NST once or twice a week until babe's ready. With my first I did end up being induced but I was three weeks over and by that time I was comfortable with being induced. 3 days late is not a valid reason to induce labour, imo.

There is no reason to induce 3 days after your due date, just because you aren't showing progess. Like all the other posters have indicated, the average first time mom goes 8 days over due with no medical interventions. Most OB's allow for 7 to 14 days at least. Stay strong Mama! I went 11 days over with my first, I know you are ready to be done, but you DO NOT want to be induced for no reason!

I was in labor for 14 hrs when I got my first cervical check and I was barely dilated, like 1 cm. Trust me -- I dilated fully and gave birth (about 6 hours after that cervical check). There are no rules when it comes to dilation, especially with your first! For the record, I'm 39w3d today and just got checked (2nd baby) and am only 1.5 cm dilated.
