Normal? No let down sensation, and only leak at night?

Is it normal to not feel a let down sensation? Also, that I only leak from one breast while he is nursing on the other in the middle of the night?

My LO is 5 weeks old, and we are EBF'ing, good poops, pees, weight etc...

Thanks Mammas....

If the diaper output and weight gain are good, I would think everything is ok. My only experience is overactive letdown and oversupply so I had a very different experience. Once I resolved those issues however, I rarely leaked.

I've never felt my letdown (DD is 27mo, and was EBF for 8+mo.) Not extremely common from what I've been told, but normal.

Yep, nothing to worry about I talk to many women who don't feel any letdown sensations, and also many who don't leak.

That is about when my milk supply evened out and I stopped having a lot of letdown and leaking. This is a sign your body has learn just how much milk to make and when.

I never felt a letdown sensation and never leaked, and I bf'ed DS for almost four years. I agree with the PPs that weight gain and wet/dirty diapers are the important thing.

Thanks ladies...his weight and diapers are all very good. Plus, I have a professional feeding scale (Medela) that I rented due to some issues (long story- but you can read my other posts if you want to know the scoop!)- so I know the exact amount he gets per nursing session (between 1.7-4oz.---average is about 3.3oz per feeding)-- so I know that milk is flowing and he is eating!

I need to let go of the scale soon- as its time to "move on"....but it makes me a bit nervous. Glad to know that others don't have let-down sensations or lots of leaking and have a good supply and a successful BF relationship!

Thanks again for the input!

You will likely find that this is something that changes as your BFing continues.. .at least it did for me. But neither let-down or leaking are a sign of supply either way.

I felt absolutely no let-down for the first 8 weeks, but I leaked a ton! While he was nursing the other side would leak, and I'd just spontaneously start leaking at random times. Now however, I do feel let down (I all of a sudden started feeling it at about 8-10 weeks). . .and I still leak, but less. And now that I feel let-down I at least get 5 seconds warning before the leaking begins!

Sounds like you're doing great!

I have yet to feel let down, and only leak when I'm super engorged, like yesterday when I had to be away for surgery for hours. (Of course, I tandem nurse... if I were only nursing one, I might leak on the other side.)

My mother also says she never felt let down when she nursed my brother. Anyone else have familial link? Just curious.

This is me. The only time I leaked during the day was when I was in a wedding and away from DD for 12 hours.
