Who else is entering the contest? Dd and I watched the whole Tour episode a few days ago. She is in love with the Toy Story room. She says she'll share with her brother. Good thing, since I don't think he would go for the lavender room!

I've read one estimate on the taxes. It would be a $700,000 hit to pay the income tax on the gift. Bummer. Then the property taxes on the house would come to about $60,000 a year.

I have a plan! We would sell the house and keep the furniture and the Terrain. We'd take a big long vacation in the house, then sell it. I have all sorts of things that I want to do with our kids in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area. We'd have enough from the proceeds to buy a great house close to my family, and we would invest the $500,000. Then I could work less and dh could retire early.

Can you tell that I'm a little frustrated with my own life right now? HGTV provides such a wonderful escapist fantasy!

I haven't watched the show but I always try to enter each year, as often as I remember anyway. I'd totally sell the house too. No matter what I can't afford that kind of expensive home. But I could pay the taxes with what I make off the house sale and have something left over to put a huge down payment on a house where we live. I'd pick and choose through the furnishings and appliances as well. Probably keep a bunch of that too, or donate or gift to friends and family.
