I love reading all the input on this- as someone who wanted a homebirth and is going to the hospital anyway this OR policy freaks me out. We're doing a hospital tour on Thursday (they've remodeled since we had our other two) and I'm going to ask to see their written policy on the OR. If there isn't a written policy I am going to refuse the recommendation.
My OB is actually okay with me birthing in a L & D room but has said that if they say I have to be in an OR he'll bring in a L & D bed, turn off all the big medical lights, and that only he and my DH will be with me. He has agreed to make it as comfortable as possible. He has said that the hospital I'm delivering at has allowed twin moms to stay in the L & D room.
I'm not particularly looking forward to delivering in an OR. I've gone natural with my other two, no interventions at all, and my OB said that this time around should actually be easier (the only "harder" part being two pushing stages). But I've never had surgery and anesthesia in general isn't my friend.
