high efficiency appliances and the water bill

It works! We purchased high efficiency toilets (we've got 2 and have 2 bathrooms yet to finish), high efficiency clothes washer and a high efficiency dish washer. Now, granted, we only use the dish washer maybe once every other week. But, we cd and wash the diapers at least every other day. Our most recent water bill? A whopping $35.00! Woo hoo! Thank goodness for the option to be metered. Without a meter, the city's flat rates were around $200 if not more. And that was without actually using any water as we were getting billed before we even occupied the place. These choices will clearly pay for themselves very quickly.

$200 a month for water!!! Wow!!!

I could believe that in outback Alaska maybe, but wow, that's a car payment!

You're really lucky. Where we live there's a $90 charge on the waterbill no matter how much you use to defray sewage costs. It really irks me because if I use less water that = less sewage, but they don't care.

Our bill is bimonthly and runs about $180 every two months.

We put in water saving appliances and all that jazz and the bill dropped about $5 bucks.

I think if they want people conserving water and using the resource wisely they'd charge accordingly and reward the people that aren't using it liberally without thought for the environmental toll.

What is your sewer bill, because that is the killer.

I'll have to check into that. Since switching from the standard billing to the metered, we don't seem to be charged for that . . . or, maybe because we're utilizing less water that bill has gone down, too? I do recall that under the previous billing (flat rate), the standard charges for sewer were included.

Ok, water was $17.58 and sewer was $15.12.

ETA: we used 43 gallons of water over 2 mos and the bill included Christmas where we had company and used the dish washer (and toilets and showers) more often.
