Pregnant but having breast issues. Help!

I'm 28 wks pregnant (and this is my fourth time around, but I've never run into this before) and all of a sudden in the past two weeks my nipples and areolas have become insanely itchy. I asked my OB about it and she said just start putting some lanolin on them to condition them (haven't purched lanolin yet).

Then two days ago, my niples & areolas got all dry/scaly/flaky and are even itchier (the one looks more red & irritated than the other, but they ar both bothersome). I'm going nuts here. Is this a sign of a yeast infection or anything else that I need to be aware of? What should I really be putting on my breasts right now (lanolin never did diddly squat for me when I BF kids 1 & 2).

I've got a max of 10 weeks to go until delivery and I want to get this all fixed before I start BF my new baby. I'm really miserable with these boobs right now.

Help!

I'm bf'ing my 1 y.o. without issue atm, but have insanely itchy nipples. I think it's dry skin! No pain, just itchy itchy itchy and flaky and DRY. Maybe as your breasts are adjusting, the skin is stretching some? Dry skin that's stretched is super uncomfortable... Either way, I hope you find relief soon!

It could be a yeast infection too. It wouldn't hurt to start taking some probiotic pills, but you should clear it with your OB first. I know it sounds funny, but try putting some plain yogurt on your nipples (leave it on for 10 minutes) and if the itching stops or subsides you most likely have a yeast infection. It's not uncommon in pregnant women so I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think they should itch that much on it's own or just because. Good Luck!
