Trying to find a doctor

Hi girls...I don't know if any of you are in the Toronto area or not. I am trying to find good recommendations for a ObGyn...we are looking to TTC #2 soon so I wanted to go in and get a bit of a check up. I don't have a regular fam doctor and Tyr's doctor is not in Toronto. I realized that I hadn't really had a pap or anything since I was first pregnant with Tyr.
Thanks for any help!!

did you try posting in the finding your tribe forum?

You'll probably need a referral from a family doctor, so you might have to start there anyway.

But for ob/gyn, I went through Mt. Sinai (Women and Infants) for my last pregnancy, after a perinatal loss (cord accident), and I thought the care was top-notch...not really NFL-style for the most part, although my ob & nurse team was really the only reason I re-attempted a vaginal delivery (I was so scared but they really listened and help build the trust; totally not all 'into' c-sections if not medically necessary). Because of quirks in my pregnancy I ended up seeing almost everyone in the practice and they were all pretty caring people. I think some midwives have privileges there but I'm not sure.

Anyways, that would be my vote in Toronto.

Thanks!!
There is a dr I saw when 1st pregnant then I went straight to a midwife I haven't seen her since...but I guess I could call and get a referral. Her bedside manor wasn't the greatest....I had to get biopsies on my thyroid while pregnant and when referred to an endocrinologist she (endocrinologist) was appauled that the dr had sent me for biopsies 1st tri....but I guess she is still a resource
Thanks again!!

You can't usually get an OB/GYN for things like paps unless you have a history of abnormal paps and need to see a specialist. Once you're pregnant they'll see you, and usually you can self refer.
If you don't have a family doctor you can go to a walk in clinic for a pap. there's also this place...

Which is a women's health centre in Toronto.
And, from a biased source, I wouldn't discount midwives based on one experience. In general, women in Ontario who have midwives are more satisfied with their pregnancy and birth care and less likely to have unecessary interventions then those who have physicians.
Good luck in your search.

No, no, no I loved my midwife!!! It was the dr I had. She was horrible...I had bleeding early and gave me the brush off and refused to let hubby in the room with me. I had 3 appts with her and each time it was interrrupted by he phone calls...I was so happy when I had my midwives (I had 2 throughout my pregnancy)

Oops, glad you loved your midwife!
Well then, you could wait till you get pregnant and the midwife can do your pap in early pregnancy or at your discharge visit.

I'm in Ontario. Before you are pregnant you would go to a family doctor. If you don't have one a walk in clinic will help until you find one. Once you get pregnant you can just call your midwife and go to her but if you prefer an obgyn then the family doctor would have to make a referral.

Hope that helps.
