Do you take your kids for check-ups? Anyone see an ND?

I'm just tired of butting heads with doctors. We have seen many, and I have been insulted too many times for my parenting choices.

I'm thinking of either giving it up entirely, or taking my kids to a naturopath.

For some backround, I'm an RN who worked in maternity, the newborn nursery and then in family medicine. I'm very familiar with check-ups and what they entail.

Urgh, I hate being judged by doctors so we saw ND exclusively for all our families medical care for the last few years. Recently it started getting way too expensive so we went on a huge hunt and found an AP, non vax pushing family doctor to offset some of the cost. DH and I have no medical background and felt comfortable taking DD to our ND for all her care since our midwives discharged us from care at 6 weeks. Fantastic experience, very low stress, appointments were long, I was listened to, my gut feeling was respected, I had say over her care, he was gentle and respectful of her body, when she needed treatment it was always with homeopathics or herbs. and was always on time! Loved that I didn't have to wait for hours in a noisy clinic filled with sick people. It does depend on the ND though, and same could be said about a fantastic doctor, but that was my experience.
ETA- we only saw our ND when we had concerns, didn't do well baby visits but I had alot of questions/concerns being a first time mom.

I am my Ds both see ND's almost exclusively. DS is 20 months old and I have done WBV (our doc is ok with us not vaxing though) if only to establish a relationship and I have had to take DS there for a severe repisratory infection a couple of months ago that was not responding to natural cures. In my state ND's cannot prescribe medication and DS needed a neubulizer. I'm glad the ped is there should i need her, but unless I absolutely have to, I will be going to the ND first!

We also see NDs. My ND loves working with LO. We live in Baltimore from april-October so there NDs are crazy expensive so I see a "regular doc" there but she's very natural. She's open to non-vaxing and using herbs/homeopathics. We also see a herbalist

mom61508, is your "regular doc" possibly in Mt Airy? If so, I use and like her too.

I only do the infrequent well check just to prove that I have established medical care since I live in WV, the land of no vaccine exemption. It's a CYA situation for me.

I see a MD who is extremely alternative. I also have a wonderful chiropractor who is very much a first choice for medical care for the whole family.

If I didn't have this awesome family practitioner, I probably wouldn't do any well checks at all.

My ds started out with a reg. ped., but hasn't been since 15 months. We've found an excellent ND who is also a midwife and she attends to all ds's needs. In AZ they can also write prescriptions if necessary. The only bad thing is the cost - for ds's 4yo checkup it was $121.00 and that was with our 10% discount . Some insurance companies will pay for NDs since they are considered primary care physicians in some states - I used to have Cigna and they actually did pay. Hopefully, things will change very soon...
