Bleeding with clots = assumed m/c?

When a 4-5 week pregnancy begins bleeding with clots and heavy cramping should one assume m/c is occurring?

How often is it that the pregnancy is still viable?

(note: not asking in regards to myself. Just looking for btdt, for someone close to me.)

unfortunately, that is usually the case.

In some instances however that is not the case. A good friend of mine who is due in just under a month assumed she was a month less along because she got very period-like bleeding (which, as she told me while i was trying to help her with it, did include clotting) however an ultrasound at what she assumed was 13 weeks that she had because she was measuring so large and they were afraid it was twins, showed a 17 week along little boy.

The only real way to know is to get blood tests to confirm that the hCG levels are dropping.

Looks like that might be the case...about 5 weeks ago she assumed she was miscarrying, but tested today and it's still positive- -blaringly positive. There was never any HCG's or u/s done to see if a m/c actually happened, so we're all a little surprised and very hopeful that she is still pregnant.

if it was 5 weeks ago... its also possible that she actually got pregnant again (unless, of course, she has not had sex in the past five weeks lol)

i suggest getting the pregnancy dated with an early u/s to be certain.

because that 1 month difference can make a HUGE difference later on.

It would probably be a miscarriage but it could be sch. They can often cause a lot of bleeding with clots but I think it would be later in the pregnany not at 4 or 5 weeks. When I was pg with my ds there was a lady from my bd who thought she had a miscarriage around 5 weeks. She had heavy bleeding and clots. Months later she rejoined the group. She felt movement so she got a doppler and heard a hb. She thinks she must of lost a twin. She didn't have an u/s or anythingto check afterwards since she was between insurance.

I would definately get an u/s in your friends case to see if it is a new pregnany or if she was pregnant even after the bleeding.

Thanks guys. The soonest she is able to get in for an u/s is Monday. She's definitely preggo, now we just have to find out how far.

I had heavy bleeding no cramping with my first at 8 and 12 weeks. Pregnancy was just perfect after that. With ds, I had bleeding with clots and cramping at 9 weeks, 11 weeks, 12 weeks and 13 weeks and turns out i had an SCH that finally healed/dissolved at 15 weeks. Had some minor spotting for the rest of my pregnancy but I now have a healthy and very busy toddler.

My best friend had heavy bleeding with cramping early on, and she had complete placenta previa. For my early losses, I've had HCG checks done till they were below 5 to confirm the loss, I wish her the best luck for a positive outcome!

I had cramping and bleeding with clots as well when I was abt 1/12 - 2 months preg. It only lasted 4 hrs and up till now I haven't gotten a us cuz I have no ins and I can't afford one yet (saving up for it) but I know I'm preg, I feel my baby moving everyday.
