I have PDF fine on correcting / teaching the crorrect hold.

I can see how some "incorrect" hold caould be a issue -- make the child more tired, or make clear penmenship harder.

but barring one of the real probems (making it hard to be clear, or making a person too tired too too fast) is there any real reason to toeach / use the "standard" grip for a writting tool?

There are two "correct" ways to hold a pencil or pen. If your child has no difficulty writing, isn't tired out from it and has legible penmanship without struggling, then no. My children have fine motor problems so we spend a lot of time on grip and position, but that's b/c they can't write properly otherwise.

i don't know.

We haven't really started, i was just wondering in general.

Theo is behind in fine motor (some) but i don't knw if that will continue or if he will be on target by the time he is really "supposed" to be writting

Thanks

I used a (very) unconventional pencil grip until I was in my second year of college. I could write just as fast and neatly as anyone else. I never understood what the big deal was about everyone having to write the same way. If it works for your child I'd say let them do it.

It wasn't a problem for me to relearn at age 19, either. (I changed because I was in the teacher education program and it was required for a class.)
